Chester bedroom range

Meet Chester: contract-grade bedroom furniture for social housing, tested to BS EN 16121:2023

Managing temporary accommodation, supported or specialist housing, key worker accommodation or children’s homes, means the bedroom furniture you choose is not just a procurement decision. It has to take a quick succession of residents, stay safe in use, and hold its condition between tenancies. Chester is our evolved bedroom range, built for the settings you manage, and it is available to order from July 2026.

Evolved bedroom furniture

Chester is a range of wardrobes and chests of drawers, manufactured in the UK and backed by a 5 year warranty. It replaces our previous bedroom range, and the changes go well beyond a new finish. This is a step forward in safety, compliance, durability and reliability.

Tested for contract use

Chester is independently tested to BS EN 16121:2023 Level 1 General Contract Use, the current British standard for non-domestic storage furniture, which rates strength, stability, durability and safety. It is one of the only bedroom ranges currently tested to this new British standard for non-domestic storage furniture. Whether a piece is used by one household with a furnished tenancy or by many residents in quick succession, it is tested for that reality, so performance does not deteriorate over time or between tenancies. Test reports are available on request which gives you documented, auditable evidence that the furniture in your schemes is assessed and right for the environment.

Built for safer, everyday use

Chester has stability built in and is not reliant on wall fixings, which reduces risk, including when doors and drawers are open. Drawer runners, hinges and fixings are rated for frequent use and realistic weight, not light domestic use. Durable, germ-resistant surfaces from anti-microbial finishing lacquers and melamine coverings make it easier to clean and more hygienic.

A finish that works for residents

The environment you provide communicates something to the people living in it. Chester’s warm oak-style finish is contemporary and versatile across a wide range of settings and room types, with rounded corners for added safety and comfort. It is not a luxury upgrade. It is a reasonable baseline for an environment where people can feel at home, which matters especially when shaping Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) and trauma-informed settings.

Lower whole-life cost

Contract-grade furniture is a requirement, not a choice. The question is which gives you the best value over time. Chester is designed to reduce replacements and repairs, which means lower staff admin and void time, less resident disruption and fewer unexpected costs. Over the life of a contract, that difference is significant.

Supporting your social value and sustainability reporting

Small but purposeful adjustments to the dimensions of several pieces mean Chester generates less wasted material in production. This is a verified, documented supply chain improvement, one you can reference directly in sustainability submissions, procurement responses and social value reporting.
